A Book of Condolence for the late Ashling Murphy will be opened in Laois County Hall, Portlaoise from 11am today Friday 14 January for any members of the public who wish to sign it.

Separately, a vigil organised by a number of people will be held at 4.30pm on Friday evening in the Memorial Park, Ridge Road, Portlaoise.

Speaking about the Book of Condolence Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council cllr Conor Bergin said: “On behalf of Laois County Council and the wider community in Laois, I wish to express our heartfelt sympathies to Ashling’s family, friends and pupils for their loss.

The entire country is shocked and saddened by this truly horrifying crime. I wish to express our abhorrence and sadness at this horrific act of violence against a young woman and we stand in solidarity with her family, wide circle of friends and pupils at this difficult time.”
