Brochan Reilly, Bosco and Carl Grant with Noel Delaney

LAOIS Hurlers Golfing Society hosted their first outing of the year on Saturday last. As usual, our hosts, Rathdowney Golf Club, gave us a warm welcome and presented us with a challenging course in pristine condition.

With a large turnout, including a number of new members and a few old faces making a welcome return, the event was, by any definition, a resounding success with the quality of the golf matching the weather conditions. We could not have ordered a more perfect day, brilliant sunshine throughout, which resulted in some exceptional scores being recorded.

When the scores were tallied, it was Brochan Reilly who claimed the top prize, closely followed home by Fint Scully. Leonard Moore claimed the bronze medal with Tommy Moore in fourth.

Paddy Hassett, with a stunning drive down the 14th, took home the longest drive prize while Jim Kells just edged out Eamon Jones to clinch the Nearest to the Pin.

Our next outing, Captain Carl Grant’s Prize, takes place on Saturday 10 September in The Heath GC.

Since our foundation, there can be little doubt but that our Society has delivered many hours of enjoyable golf to our members. If you wish to join our society and wish to play, please contact Alex Stenson on 086 2570757 or alternatively just turn up on the day. To become a member, golfers just need to have played hurling at any level, but must be a current member of a golf club and hold a GUI handicap.
