THREE community projects in Laois will share €126,500 under CLÁR programme funding announced today.

The biggest slice will go to St Aengus FC, which will get €49,500 for phase one development of a full size Astroturf pitch.

Clonin Sports Field Committee will receive €40,000 for installation of a basketball/tennis court hard-standing area and extension of the ball wall curtilage.

Meanwhile, Camross NS has been granted €37,000 for provision of an outdoor performance space.

The CLÁR programme is targeted investment for rural areas, providing funding for small infrastructural projects and developments that will benefit people of all ages.

Sports clubs, schools and community groups were invited to apply for funding, with 74 successful applications nationwide. The projects include Astroturf pitches, community gyms, playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts, outdoor pool tables, outdoor cinemas, walkways, public toilets and car park facilities.

Congratulating the three Laois groups, minister of state Seán Fleming said: “Our schools, sports clubs and voluntary community groups do tremendous work in our community and so many people in our towns and villages benefit from the facilities and activities they offer.

“I wish them all the best of luck as they proceed now with this additional funding, improving the facilities for their students, club members and their communities.”
