GARDAÍ are investigating a serious ramming incident at the National Ploughing Championships in Laois.
The incident involving the winner of the All Ireland Senior Ram title (pictured above) and a lone Garda Sergeant on foot patrol occurred at the site this morning.
While exact details are not being released for operational reasons, the officer is said to have been in a state of “shear terror” during the close encounter.
The ramming in Ratheniska came just days after the ramming of a garda car in Cherry Orchard, west Dublin on Monday night.
Good-humoured gardaí posted a picture of the Ploughing incident on the Garda Síochána Laois Offaly Facebook page this morning and are inviting captions from followers.
Among the best so far is from Gearóid P. Ó Meadhra, who posted: “Well Sarg, I was here the whole time. That must have been my cousin in Cherry Orchard!”
On a serious note, gardaí added: “It’s a morning for the wellies and brollies here in Ratheniska. Please slow down, take extra care and drive safely as you approach car parks on site.
“There are plenty of Gardaí and stewards here to help. Met Eireann say the sunshine will soon return.”
