Alice Culliton who completed her 24-hour fast and collection for Concern.

By Joe Barrett

Laois woman Alice Culliton completed her 24-hour fast for Concern in Mountmellick on Sunday 27 November and in doing so raised more than €1,000.

Following her fundraising fast Alice said: “The work is done, and it was so good, despite the pressures on people. A sincere thank you to everyone who showed their support. The amount collected was over €1,000.”

From November 1984 to 1985 during the famine in Ethiopia, Alice worked at a feeding camp in Harbo, where she witnessed its devastating impact on millions of people across the Horn of Africa.

She took part in last weekend’s sponsored fast for Concern, which aims to provide increased support to millions in the Horn of Africa who are facing severe hunger because of the worst drought in that area in 40 years.

As well as her 24-hour fast, Alice also held a collection at SuperValu in Mountmellick.
