ICA members from around Laois are preparing to bring a bit of hope and festive cheer to children in Albania this Christmas.

Members from the Borris-in-Ossory, Portlaoise and Spink Guilds are busy checking and sorting through thousands of shoe boxes that were filled with items that the children will use in their daily lives as well as toys as part of the Team Hope Shoe Box Appeal.

The ICA members are checking the shoe boxes to see that they contain pens or pencils, crayons, paper, copy books, colouring books, markers as well as soap, hairbrushes, combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and facecloths. Other items they are sorting through include socks, underwear, flip flops, hast, scarfs and gloves, cuddly toys, skipping ropes, yo-yos, sweets, small musical instruments and dolls.

The guild members collected the shoe boxes from schools from around the county which had been filled and donated by the school children.

With one more week left before the shoe boxes are shipped off to the children in Albania the ICA guild members will continue sorting them in the former Xtravision shop in Bull Lane, Portlaoise and estimate that over 3,000 shoe boxes will go from Laois this Christmas.
