St Abban’s AC News

THE club had four athletes competing in the National Indoor Combined Events which took place on Saturday and Sunday in the TUS arena Athlone. There was great success with Aoibhinn McDonald and Adam Kelly claiming national medals.

Aoibhin was victorious in the Junior Women’s Pentathlon while Adam took the silver medal in the Boys U/14. Both athletes competed in five events across the day including 60m hurdles, long jump, shot putt, high jump and finished off with the 800m.

Aoibhin won three of her five events, eventually finishing with a total of 2339. Adam meanwhile finished with a total of 1713 in what was a battle for the medals.

Katie Baldwin finished in eighth place in the Youth Women’s while Matthew Rossiter was just outside the medals in fourth place in the Men’s Heptathlon.

Congratulations to all these athletes who undertook a number of events across the day or in Matthew’s case two days of fierce competition before the standings were decided.
