Summer is here and that means Touch Rugby returns to Portlaoise RFC. Touch rugby is a fantastic sport that encompasses all the skills of rugby with minimal contact (honestly minimal, touching the ball counts). It develops the skills of passing, finding space and running lines. It’s a great sport for those looking to sharpen skills over the summer or for those looking to try rugby for the first time.

The hour usually involves a short warm up, a quick run through the rules and then splitting into teams and playing games. The emphasis is on fun and enjoyment.

What are the rules

There are unlimited subs and each team is allowed 6 touches before the ball is turned over or given back to the other team. When touched the ball is placed/rolled back between your legs to the next person on your team. A dropped ball counts as a turnover.

The teams

6 players on the pitch at any one time made up of mixed ages, genders and abilities. Unlimited subs during the game. The emphasis is on fun.

There is no requirement to have a team. Register as an individual and come along every Monday night. Teams are made up from whoever is there on the night.

Portlaoise RFC have run Touch Rugby over the past few summers and have hosted tag blitzes as well as take part in blitzes in other clubs.

Come along for a fun filled Monday evening from 8-9pm.
