A LAOIS MAN charged with rape, threatening to kill or cause serious injury and assault causing harm was further remanded in custody when his case was heard at Portlaoise District Court last week.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had his case heard by video link from Cloverhill Prison.
He is charged with assault causing harm on dates between 1 and 2 November last, with rape on dates between 9 June and 2 November and with threatening to kill or cause serious injury on dates between 1 and 9 June last year. He is further charged with assault causing harm on 9 January this year – all at an address in Laois.
The court heard that the defendant had sought bail in the High Court, which was refused and that the state requires three weeks for the preparation of a book of evidence.
Judge Andrew Cody remanded the accused in custody to 24 April and for the case to again be conducted by video link. He also asked that the book of evidence be ready by 8 May.
