SEWAGE is boiling up after heavy rainfalls in some driveways along Colliers Lane in Portlaoise and councillors want Uisce Éireann to resolve the problems.

The matter was brought to the attention of the Portlaoise Municipal District Council by cllr Catherine Fitzgerald who called for the problems in the area to be addressed.

She said: “When I brought this issue up before, some of the problems were addressed in Colliers Lane. But there’s still a few houses with serious issues.”

Cathaoirleach of the district council cllr Paddy Buggy said: “There’s a problem with the pumping station in that area, I believe.”

Cllr Fitzgerald said: “Some houses have really serious problems. Some were done. Some weren’t done. The pipes were changed in some gardens and not in others. It’s serious for the residents who have to deal with this problem.”

Cathaoirleach Buggy said: “When they get heavy rain it’s a huge problem. Sewage is boiling up in people’s driveways.”

The council’s senior engineer Adrian Barrett said that the issue will be brought to the immediate attention of Uisce Éireann for a prompt response, which in turn will be relayed to councillors.
