FOLLOWING a morning of heavy rainfall, the athletes that braved the elements for the 32nd Luggacurren 10k had yet again another very successful event.

THE pinnacle of the National Track and Field season took place over the weekend with the National Track and Field Championships taking place in Santry. St Abban’s AC had strong representation throughout the weekend across a range of events.

THE National League finals took place on Sunday last with St Abban’s AC fielding teams in both the Men’s and Women’s competitions. The Men's team finished sixth in the Premier Division and the Women's team finished fourth in Division 1.

IRELAND boasted strong performances by all of their representatives at last Saturday’s World Under-18 Youth Cup Mountain Running Championships in Donovaly, Slovakia, with the boys’ team finishing up eighth overall and the girls emerging 12th.

FIVE Laois athletes are among the eight competitors set to represent Ireland at the World Under-18 Youth Cup Mountain Running Championships in Donovaly, Slovakia this coming Saturday.

ST Abban’s AC had a large crowd out competing on Saturday at the Leinster Juvenile Relays held in SETU Carlow. Overall, the club won seven sets of medals across a wide range of age groups with athletes competing across even and uneven ages.

THE Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships took place on last week with a host of St Abban’s athletes swapping their club vests to represent their various schools in Tullamore.

LAOIS will account for no less than five of the eight athletes representing Ireland in next month’s World Under 18 Youth Cup Mountain Running Championships in Slovakia following last Sunday’s national team trials in Tipperary.

MOUNTMELLICK’S Ava O’Connor has etched her name into Irish athletics history in recent weeks with remarkable performances at the Bryan Clay Invitational in California, where she shattered the Irish U/23 3000m steeplechase record. Her time of 9:46.

A NUMBER of St Abban’s athletes were in action on Friday and Saturday representing their colleges in the Irish University Athletics Association Track and Field Championships.

THE indoor season came to a close on Saturday in Athlone at Day 3 of the National Juvenile Indoor Championships. Well done to all our juveniles who were out competing.

JUST one week on from the Laois Senior Road race in Ballyroan, the Laois Intermediate road race was held in a sunny Killeen on Sunday, along a scenic loop. Thanks to St Abban's AC for hosting and supplying the refreshments afterwards.

DAY 1 and 2 of the National Juvenile Championships took place over the weekend in Athlone. St Abban’s had just over 20 athletes who qualified to compete across both of these days.

BALLYROAN Abbeyleix & District AC played the host for the 2025 edition of the Laois Senior Road Championships on Sunday last in a sunny Ballyroan.

LAURA Ayers made her international debut over the weekend when she competed for Ireland at the SIAB Cross Country Championships in Falkirk Scotland.

IT was a sell out at the National Indoor Arena in Abbottstown for the National Senior Track and Field Championships which were held over last weekend.

BALLYROAN Abbeyleix and District cross country runners made a very successful trip to Dunleer in Co. Louth where the Men's and Women's teams scored notable success in the Rás na hEireann open cross country events.

WHILE storm Éowyn battered the county on Friday, weather conditions had not improved much by Sunday when the Laois Novice Road Championships took place along the canal in Vicarstown.

WELL done to all the St Abban’s AC juveniles who travelled to Offaly on Saturday for the Leinster Juvenile Cross Country Relays. The club had five teams competing across all age groups with all securing team medals which was a fantastic achievement.
